IT band syndrome causes pain on the outer side of the knee where the iliotibial band (a thick tissue running from hip to knee) becomes irritated. It's one of the most common overuse injuries in runners and cyclists, typically occurring when mileage increases too quickly.
Mild cases improve in 3-4 weeks with proper treatment. More stubborn cases may take 6-10 weeks. The key is addressing the root cause — usually hip weakness and poor biomechanics — not just treating the knee pain.
Directly foam rolling the IT band is often too aggressive and may worsen irritation. It's more effective to foam roll the quadriceps, hamstrings, and hip muscles that attach to the IT band. We teach specific self-release techniques that actually help.
Running through IT band pain usually makes it worse. We recommend a temporary break from running (typically 1-3 weeks) while addressing the underlying weakness, then a structured return-to-running program. Cross-training with swimming or cycling is usually tolerable.
Weak gluteal muscles (especially gluteus medius), sudden training increases, running on banked surfaces, and poor running form are the primary causes. We use movement analysis to identify your specific contributing factors.
Sessions start from ₹500. Most cases improve significantly within 4–6 sessions; long-standing or complex cases may need more. We include running gait analysis and a return-to-running program in the treatment plan.
