Abdominal separation after pregnancy treated without surgery at C7Physio Jaipur. Deep core and pelvic floor rehab with a female physiotherapist, C-Scheme.
Diastasis Recti treatment at C7Physio in C-Scheme, Jaipur follows a structured, evidence-based physiotherapy programme across 3 phases. Each phase has clear goals, hands-on treatments, and recovery milestones, personalised by Dr. Raj Maheshwari (BPT, MIAP, CMTPT, MCMT) for your diastasis recti and recovery goals.
Objective measurement of the separation, then retraining the deep abdominal wall and pelvic floor to work together before any load is added
Graded load through the abdominal wall while the midline stays controlled, with pelvic floor rehabilitation running alongside
Restoring full trunk strength and clearing you for gym, running or sport with the midline holding under real-world load
We measure the gap between the muscle edges above, at and below the navel, both at rest and while the abdomen is under load. Width alone is not the whole picture — how much tension the midline tissue can hold matters more for your recovery, so we assess that too, along with your pelvic floor. You get your actual measurements at the first visit, and we re-measure through treatment so progress is objective rather than guesswork.
In the large majority of cases, yes. Structured physiotherapy restores the tension and function of the abdominal wall, and most people see substantial improvement within 10-14 weeks. Surgery is reserved for a small minority. What matters is that the rehabilitation is graded and supervised — untargeted gym work, and crunches in particular, commonly make the separation worse.
No. Diastasis recti responds to correct loading regardless of how long it has been there, and we routinely treat women several years postpartum. Older separations may take somewhat longer because the tissue has been unsupported for a while, but the treatment approach and the outcome are much the same. There is no cut-off after which rehabilitation stops working.
Surgical repair is considered only when a wide separation has not responded to a properly delivered course of physiotherapy, or when there is a true hernia at the midline alongside the separation. Even then, physiotherapy beforehand improves the surgical result and recovery. Any decision about surgery is made with your surgeon — our role is to make sure conservative treatment has genuinely been given a fair trial first.
Yes. It develops in anyone exposed to sustained pressure on the abdominal wall — heavy lifting with breath-holding, a chronic cough, long-standing constipation and straining, or significant abdominal weight. It also follows abdominal surgery. The assessment and rehabilitation are essentially the same, minus the postpartum and pelvic floor components.
Sessions start from ₹500. Most people need 8-12 sessions spread across the programme, with home work between visits doing much of the actual rebuilding. Longer-standing or wider separations, and cases with significant pelvic floor involvement, may need more. You get a clear plan with timeline and costs at your initial consultation at our C-Scheme clinic.

WhatsApp usDiastasis recti is a separation of the two halves of the rectus abdominis muscle along the midline, leaving a gap and a soft ridge that often shows as a belly bulge that will not flatten. Most women develop it in late pregnancy and around 60% are still separated at six weeks postpartum; it also affects men and follows abdominal surgery. At C7Physio in C-Scheme, Jaipur, Dr. Divya Singodia measures the separation and rebuilds deep core and pelvic floor control. Most cases improve substantially within 10-14 weeks without surgery.

Diastasis Recti overview
The most common symptoms include:
Visible midline bulge:Moderate A ridge or dome down the centre of the abdomen when you sit up or strain
Belly that will not flatten:Moderate A persistent rounded lower abdomen months after delivery despite weight loss
A palpable gap:Moderate A soft, hollow channel felt along the midline above or below the navel
Core weakness:Severe Difficulty lifting your baby, rolling in bed, or getting up from lying
Low back and pelvic pain:Severe The trunk loses its natural support, loading the spine and pelvis instead
Bloating and digestive discomfort:Mild Reduced abdominal support affecting gut function, often worse through the day
Pelvic floor symptoms:Severe Leaking or a feeling of heaviness, which commonly occurs alongside the separation
Understanding the causes helps in effective treatment:
The growing uterus stretches the linea alba, especially with twins, a large baby or closely spaced pregnancies
Connective tissue recovers more slowly, raising the chance the gap persists
Scarring and post-operative weakness of the abdominal wall
Crunches, sit-ups and heavy lifting with breath-holding drive the midline apart
Persistent cough, constipation and straining, or excess abdominal weight
Naturally stretchy tissue makes separation more likely and slower to resolve
